Magic Monday – The GP’s bag

Curing Charms

Like the Guardian Charms and Traveler’s Charms, this is a family of rituals used by common people, often with the guidance of hedge-wizards, to cure themselves of minor ailments. The practitioner must repeat certain rhymes, carry a special scented candle around a moonlit pond thrice, shave every day using a silver mirror, drink an infusion made of certain tree-barks, wash in a waterfall and beat themselves dry with rushes, or any of dozens of other cures. In return, they may gain relief from acne, warts, toothache, headache, morning-sickness, gas, hangovers, or any of dozens of other afflictions that are unpleasant but not life-threatening. In cases where the problem being treated is just a symptom of some deeper issue then there may be temporary relief, but a permanent cure will likely require stronger medicine.

About Confanity

I love the written word more than anything else I've had the chance to work with. I'm back in the States from Japan for grad school, but still studying Japanese with the hope of becoming a translator -- or writer, or even teacher -- as long as it's something language-related.
